Residence permit possibilties for third-country nationals from Ukraine
On September 2, 2022, we met with students and non-students from Ukraine to discuss study and work residence permit possibilities. Here are the takeaways from the meeting.
Each third-country national from Ukraine has until the expiry date of their Fiktionsbecheinigung to fulfill the requirements for a study or work residence permit.
You may qualify for a study or work residence permit if you have one of the following:
- Proof of acceptance for full-time studies at either a state university or a state-recognized university or comparable institution
- Proof of attendance of a language course to prepare for studies if you have been admitted for a full-time study and the admission depends on taking the course.
- Proof of attendance of a preparatory course before studying (Studienkolleg);
- Proof of enrolment in a university preparatory course without being accepted for a course of study.
- Proof of acceptance for a pre-study traineeship or internship at a company
- An Ausbildung (dual vocational training)
- Gainful employment in a non-menial job as a qualified individual (a trained professional or graduate from an institution of higher learning)
NOTE:
- Proof of financial subsistence is an additional requirement for a student residence permit
- Gainful employment and Ausbildung do not require personal proof of financial subsistence as they are sources of income
- Scholarships and stipends could also serve as proof of financial subsistence
